The Göreme Open-Air Museum is Cappadocia's UNESCO World Heritage star — a valley of Byzantine monasteries and rock-cut churches where remarkable 11th–13th century frescoes survive in caves carved from volcanic tuff. The Dark Church and the Apple Church are the finest.
