Overview
The Sultanahmet Mosque — known as the Blue Mosque for its 20,000 hand-painted blue Iznik tiles — is Istanbul's most recognisable landmark. Built between 1609 and 1616, it is the only imperial mosque in Istanbul with six minarets and remains an active place of worship with free entry.
