A Day with the Maasai

  • Immerse yourself in the culture and traditions of the Maasai during a day spent in the beautiful Ngong Hills. Learn to make Maasai jewelry, discover the song and dance of the tribe, and support a local nonprofit dedicated to alleviating poverty while you're at it—all net proceeds from the tour go to One Horizon Africa.

  • Get picked up from your hotel and head out of Nairobi into the Ngong Hills, the homeland of the Maasai. Run in partnership with One Horizon Africa—a nonprofit dedicated to alleviating poverty in Kenya and South Africa—this tour is led by 2 Maasai tribeswomen, sisters who learned how to make jewelry from their grandmother.

  • Join them in the cool shade of an acacia tree and make your own Maasai wristband, learning time-honored methods for making jewelry and the meaning of the different colors used in the intricate beadwork. If you'd like, round out the experience by partaking in customary Maasai singing and dancing before heading back to the city.

Important Information

Dress standards are conservative throughout Africa. To respect this and for your own comfort, we strongly recommend modest clothing. This means covering shoulders and no short shorts. We recommend a mixture of loose, lightweight clothing and warm clothing for the evenings. Shorts should be knee-length. Singlets and tank tops are not suitable
